What is the WIC Program?

 

WIC is a federally funded program that provides healthy supplemental foods and nutrition counseling for pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children under age five. The program serves to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to five years of age who are at nutritional risk. The program does this by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.

 

Who is eligible for the WIC Program?

 

To be eligible for the WIC Program applicants must be:

   pregnant women or women who have given birth within 

   6 months,
   infants up to their first birthday, or
   children up to their 5th birthday

 

This program is for residents of Bladen County who meet certain income and nutritional risk criteria.
